Schuh Farms

Steve and Susan Schuh were married October 5, 1963 and have been farming ever since. They purchased their first farm ground in the Skagit Valley. it was 80 acres on Bradshaw Road that was owned by Bub & Ruth Lockhart. So, Steve started growing fresh green peas for 3 local processors. Over the years the farm grew seed crops, wheat, and barley. In the late 1970s Susan convinced Steve to plant a U-Pick strawberry field. This proved to be a lot of fun fo the Schuh family. they put up a berry stand to sell strawberries that were picked by local neighbor kids (and some for their parents). Next they added raspberries. They sent berries to a local processor. Soon the Mount Vernon Farmers market opened and Susan was part of the first market with her beautiful berries. We had so much fun getting to visit with our customers we decided to focus on being a fresh market farm. So we added corn and then pumpkins. By the late 1980s we had outgrown our berry stand and its location. We were lucky and found our wonderful location where we are today.
