North Yakima Conservation

In the Yakima Valley, water conservation is critical during hot summer months, prompting farmers to address inefficiencies caused by aging aboveground irrigation ditches that lost significant amounts of water. Kristi visits the North Yakima Conservation District who partnered with local growers to replace open canals with underground pipes and install a diversion and fish screens, improving water efficiency while protecting native fish. These upgrades increased water pressure, reduced maintenance, improved water quality, and delivered long-term benefits for farmers, wildlife, and the entire irrigation district.
